The University of Sharjah has initiated a research effort to create a blockchain-based metaverse platform for the preservation of UAE history and tradition.

The University of Sharjah, in collaboration with the BSV Blockchain Association, intends to preserve ownership of UAE culture by way of cryptoassets and to build an NFT and physical platform where consumers may trade tangible original versions and NFTs in a metaverse setting.

Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies at the University of Sharjah, said that this was an extremely pragmatic application case including blockchain, metaverse, and NFTs.

“The University serves the community and the country’s economy of the UAE by executing the goal of the Emirate of Sharjah in addition to the UAE’s objective of recording and conserving our history and legacy in both physical and intangible media,” he stated.

Jimmy Nguyen, founding president of the Bitcoin Association for BSV, further stated, “We are really thrilled and heartened with the collaboration with a leading organization in the UAE, including the University of Sharjah, to create a novel remedy that employs the most sophisticated technology to retain the nation’s virtues and heritage in UAE and the geographic area. “The debut of a brand-new tech company will assist in the creation of a large number of employment opportunities for recent graduates in the field of technology, as well as establish a brand-new economy for dealing in antiques, culturally significant, and contemporary artworks in digital format and on virtual marketplaces as non-fungible tokens.”

Dr. Mohamed Al Hemairy, the top scholar at the University of Sharjah, said, “The United Arab Emirates has a highly rich cultural and human legacy, which is characterized by diverse physical inheritances. To maintain the intellectual property and control of the Emirati families’ hereditary treasures, and since subsequent generations and expats do not know a lot about it, we investigated how Blockchain may be used. For this reason, we set out to establish an online art gallery for Arabic and Islamic culture, history, antiquities, historic, and contemporary artworks in a cutting-edge digital medium. These cultural artifacts would be synthesized in a manner that preserves their intellectual property using Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT).”

The UAE’s history and culture will be shown in a BSV Blockchain-powered virtual art exhibition in the Metaverse. To control the transmission of these inheritances, smart contracts will be used.

Muhammad Anjum, the Chief of the BSV Hub for MESA, said, “Building ties and aiding academic institutions is a fundamental objective of our national BSV Hub, as well as a significant means through which blockchain technology may expand across the Middle East. The University of Sharjah has shown a compelling business case for the BSV blockchain’s outstanding capabilities. The Dubai Metaverse Strategy is an important advancement and a crucial step toward becoming the UAE the first nation in the world to accept and employ the metaverse. We anticipate additional collaborations between BSV Ecosystem and the University of Sharjah in the near future.”
